UNLOCKING HOME INTERNET ACCESS: EXPLORING CABLE TELEVISION NETWORKS AS ALTERNATIVE INFRASTRUCTURE

Esther Balogun , Lecturer Department of Computer Science Ebonyi State University Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Nigeria

Abstract

In the quest to provide widespread and high-speed home internet access, this study investigates the potential of repurposing existing cable television networks as an alternative infrastructure solution. Traditional network deployments face challenges such as high costs and lengthy implementation times. This research explores the feasibility and advantages of leveraging cable TV networks to deliver internet services to homes efficiently and cost-effectively. Through a comprehensive analysis of technological compatibility, economic viability, and regulatory considerations, this study offers insights into the prospects of enhancing internet access through cable television networks. By harnessing existing infrastructure, this approach has the potential to bridge the digital divide and accelerate the delivery of reliable high-speed internet to underserved communities.
