Okpara Abiola , Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria

Abstract

Human capital development plays a crucial role in driving inclusive growth and reducing poverty, particularly in developing economies like Nigeria. This paper explores the impact of education and skills development on poverty alleviation, emphasizing how investments in human capital contribute to economic prosperity and social mobility. By examining policies, programs, and challenges in Nigeria’s education and vocational training sectors, the study highlights the need for strategic interventions to enhance workforce productivity and employability. The paper also discusses the role of government, private sector, and international organizations in fostering a sustainable human capital development framework. Findings suggest that a well-structured approach to education and skills training can significantly improve income levels, reduce unemployment, and promote long-term economic growth. The study concludes with policy recommendations aimed at strengthening human capital as a catalyst for inclusive economic development in Nigeria.
