Abstract

This research provides a linguistic analysis of adverbial tense usage in the Arabic press, focusing on the grammatical and semantic functions of adverbial modifiers within journalistic discourse. Using textual materials from the UAE newspaper Al-Ittihad on economic and sports topics, the study explores how adverbial expressions of time—particularly those in the accusative case and with prepositions—contribute to the temporal and aspectual structure of Arabic sentences. Through a detailed morphological, syntactic, and semantic examination, the research identifies the most frequent adverbial constructions such as خلال, في, حتى, and امس, highlighting their grammatical flexibility and contextual significance. The study reveals that these temporal expressions not only establish chronological sequencing but also reflect stylistic features characteristic of Arabic media language. Statistical analysis indicates that adverbial modifiers in the accusative case with prepositions dominate in frequency, underscoring the syntactic economy and expressive precision of Arabic journalistic style. The research contributes to the understanding of Arabic linguistic structures and their pragmatic use in the press, offering comparative insights for further study of Arabic-Uzbek linguistic parallels in temporal expression.
